This Georgian Irish side table dates from 1750 and follows the Georgian style. The piece is constructed from dark brown mahogany with good colour and patination, showing a smooth rectangular top with rounded corners to the front and an ogee shaped moulding above a vertically veneered frieze. A well carved central shell motif of unusual design decorates the front apron. The table stands on four cabriole legs finely carved with acanthus and scroll decoration, terminating in pad feet with foliate carving. The item measures 114.3 cm wide by 60.9601 cm deep by 73.6601 cm high. In a modern home, this side table fits well beside the front door or in a hallway to serve as a surface for keys and small items. The dark timber and traditional carving suit an English Country House aesthetic or a reception room with classic furniture. The design allows it to sit flush against a wall in a living room, study or dining room while providing display space for lamps, books or decorative objects.

Georgian Irish furniture is notable for its heavy use of dense mahogany, deep relief carving, and distinctive decorative elements such as central shell motifs, mask carvings, and carved cabriole legs terminating in webbed or pad feet.

Tables from this period were predominantly constructed from imported dense mahogany, often Cuban or West Indian, paired with secondary oak or pine woods for interior framing and drawer linings.

Authentic pieces generally display deep hand-carved detailing on the frieze apron, hand-cut dovetail joinery, natural age-related patination, and proportional characteristics unique to mid-to-late 18th-century Irish cabinetmakers.

Position the table in an entryway or hallway beneath a contemporary mirror or large artwork to create a striking contrast between historical craftsmanship and modern aesthetics.

Dust regularly with a dry, soft microfiber cloth and apply a high-quality beeswax polish once or twice a year, keeping the wood away from direct sunlight and artificial heat sources to prevent drying or fading.
