This late Victorian occasional table dates from 1890 and follows a Victorian and Gothic design style. Constructed from dark figured Rio rosewood with brass feet, it displays a dark brown colour across its timber surfaces. The piece features an octagonal top above square tapered legs with incised fluted carvings and brass caps at the base of each leg. An X-form cross stretcher with molded block details and a central finial connects the legs together underneath the top surface. The table measures 69 cm high and 76 cm wide. In a contemporary home, this occasional table suits placement at the end of a sofa or in a living room seating area. It provides a stable surface for lamps, books, or decorative objects while adding historic character to the room layout. The compact proportions allow it to fit comfortably beside standard upholstery items without dominating the surrounding floor space. Its sturdy timber construction ensures it withstands everyday domestic use as a functional display or side table.

Victorian octagonal occasional tables are accent furniture pieces from the late nineteenth century, characterised by eight-sided tops, detailed leg turnings, and decorative stretchers.

These tables were constructed using solid hardwood frameworks finished with figured Rio rosewood veneers, often featuring turned timber spindles and brass feet ferrules.

Authentic pieces from this period display hand-cut joinery, period-appropriate timber patination, fluted or reeded leg turning, and structural cross-stretchers.

Place the table alongside contemporary seating as a functional surface, paired with a simple modern ceramic lamp or glass vessel to contrast the dark timber grain.

Keep the timber away from direct heat sources and bright sunlight, dust regularly with a soft dry cloth, and apply clear beeswax polish periodically to safeguard the finish.
