This is a superb quality antique early Victorian mahogany butler's tray on a turned stand, circa 1850, in excellent original condition. This type of tray was used both on grand tours and campaigns, but also in wealthy houses for serving drinks. It boasts a top quality over sized front-loading tray with shaped side carrying handles. As the tray is constructed of top quality mahogany with a dovetail construction, it is reasonably heavy (a sign of quality) with a stunning colour & patination. The tray base is constructed of two planks of mahogany (another sign of quality). The tray sits on a very good quality turned mahogany-folding stand with a connecting ring-turned stretcher for added strength. What makes this an unusual and rarer example is the fact that it features an over-sized tray and the webbing straps to the stand are original.

This tray and table is a truly classic example from the early Victorian period. The level of detail and craftsmanship displayed is second to none. It is rare to see an example, which not only is in excellent condition but also completely original.

The tray features a rich red mahogany colour. As it boasts the original polish, it has a fantastic colour and patination; this can only be achieved through age and years of care and cleaning it has received. This truly is a very beautiful item with quality construction and is original throughout. It is rare to see one in such good condition.

Condition Report:
It is rare to see an example, which not only is in excellent condition but is also completely original, even the original webbing to the stand. The level of detail and craftsmanship displayed is second to none. There are no splits to the top either. There are nominal old use marks to the leading edges but nothing significant considering the age of the item and years of use. The wooden tray and stand are all sturdy. This item is solid in joint and ready to use.
