Fine Quality Edwards & Roberts Inlaid Plant Stand or Jardiniere

A fine quality late 19th century Edwards & Roberts highly decorative ormolu mounted inlaid plant stand or jardiniere of serpentine form in the French style.

This piece consists of a serpentine shaped top being crossbanded in Kingwood with boxwood stringing with a brass edge.

To the centre is a pierced brass gallery with the original zinc liner for plants and flowers, the stand could also be used as a stunning wine or champagne cooler.

This leads down to superb quality marquetry and parquetry inlaid decoration of Kingwood and other exotic woods on all four sides.

This follows down to four cabriole legs each with fine quality ormolu mounts to the top and leading down to fine quality ormolu mounts to the feet.

A label can be found to the underneath, 'Edwards & Roberts, Wardour St, 126 Piccadilly, 532, Oxford St, London.'

Edwards & Roberts were formed in 1845 with premises at 21, Wardour Street, London where they traded until the end of the century. They became one of the leading cabinet makers and retailers in the city producing fine quality items particularly furniture with inlay, marquetry and ormolu.

This plant stand is in excellent condition and can go straight into a home.
