A Superb Quality Ceylonese Solid Ebony Carved Stand

A mid 19th century Ceylonese superb quality and profusely carved solid ebony stand probably from the Galle district of Sri Lanka (Ceylon).

The stand consists of a circular top with a gadrooned edge supported by carved brackets.

This leads down to carved foliate decoration following down to a bulbous decoration superbly carved with floral and foliate designs.

This leads down to a pierced section with carved flower and foliate decoration with carved scrolls and three carved cherub heads, leading down to a rope twist carved collar.

The stand is supported by a finely carved and pierced tri-form base again of floral, fruit and foliate designs terminating with scroll toes.

The Galle district is an area in Sri Lanka (Ceylon) which was renowned in the 19th century for the production of superbly carved items of furniture particularly made of ebony.

This stand is in excellent condition and is ready to go straight into a home or collection.
