English late 19th century-c1870-1890.
Profusely carved in Renaissance Revival designs.

The table is of rectangular, canted corner form. over the most wonderful carved frieze, which incorporates two drawers.
The carvings to the frieze are beautiful, having scrolling foliage, mythical birds gorging on fruiting vines and Putti playing musical instruments. With a charming central Green Man?, flanked by wings. Each canted corner has quirky faced, mask designs.

The elaborate carvings continue to the base, with the table being supported by wonderful figural supports. The left figure is Atlantes (male) with a lobster beneath. The right is a Caryatid (female) figure with a ribbon topped, fruit garland below. Having a boarded back, with an under-tier.

The colour of the oak is rich and warm with an excellent patina.
An amazing, very imposing Victorian side table, showing the best of Victorian craftsmanship.
Very solid, sturdy and strong, completely constructed from solid oak.

The up-stand /superstructure, could be removed if preferred.
Overall excellent condition, with minor signs of use.
