A Highly Impressive English "Boulle" Desk Stand

19th century
Description

A fine quality early 19th century English Regency period DESK STAND or "STANDISH" in superb original condition.

This beautiful and typically Regency piece is of ebony and profusely inlaid with brass "boulle" scrollwork to the top and all four sides (including the back), with a solid brass edge all round.

It is surmounted by a substantial cast brass handle with a small lidded compartment below and flanked by the pair of original heavy cut-glass ink bottles. To the front is a useful drawer and it is supported on original compressed bun feet in solid ebony. 13ins (33cms) wide.
