Japanese Ivory Monkey Cigarette Case by Maruki Company

1900 - 1920
Description

As part of our oriental collection we are delighted to offer this fine quality humerous Japanese ivory cigarette case depicting monkeys carved in low relief, the monkey to the front is sat in a tranquil pose with a butterfly above his head meanwhile the monkey to the rear has a youngster on his shoulders and is being harrased by a hornet , the expression of horror on his face tells the story .

Signed by the Maruki company.

The condition of the ivory is lovely with a nice mellow honey colour , the catch closes tight and the hinge is strong and secure ,slight gaping to the top and bottom when closed but overall a great case for your collection !
