Quiet Street Antiques of Bath has dated this piece to the 1900s.

Complete in its glazed and superbly built mahogany case, it is beautifully built with a vast number of faithfully-produced brass fittings, including lifeboats; rails; companionways; ventilation shafts windlasses etc. etc. It measures 70ins (178cms) wide and 18ins (45.5cms) high.

On February 20 1917, during the First World War, the "Mervyn" was on voyage from Port Talbot to Bordeau with a cargo of coal. She was involved in a collision at the approaches of the Channel, and sank some 20 miles south of Lands End.
