Description

As part of our oriental collection we are delighted to offer this massive ivory shibayama decorated tusk vase on stand , this being the second and largest of the two tusk vases directly from a private collection in Shropshire, the tusk section is of enormous proportions both in terms of height and diameter and when stood on its bespoke base it stands a whopping 78 cm 31" from the floor.

The tusk is decorated in stunning detail throughout , the front depicts a pair of cockerels and a hen in a very busy floral setting , one cockerel has found himself up a prunus tree, the rear depicts a bird sat on a lantern in a charming garden setting, other birds in flight surround the flora, the tusk section signed in a seal to the side, stood on a finely pierced and carved stand with double undertier .

This is simply as good and as large as we have seen for many years , most pieces of this magnitude are in the hands of private collectors worldwide , the photo's simply cannot capture the scale of this object.

The condition is superb with remarkably no losses to the hundreds of inlaid semi precious stones !!
