Very Fine Large English Ivory Chess Set

1900 - 1920
Description

A very fine large English mid-19th century IVORY CHESS SET & BOARD of particularly good quality.

Although unsigned, this beautiful set is clearly by an important maker (Calvert or perhaps Lund?) ~ beautifully turned and carved, and of exceptional colour and patina. The kings measure 10.5cms high, and the whole set is in wonderful condition. Certainly the best ivory chess set we have stocked.

The board is predominantly of rosewood, inlaid with satinwood and hinged, which when opened reveals an interior inlaid for backgammon. Priced for chess set and the board.
