Life-size Gilded Carved Wood Greyhound

A stylish and stylized Greyhound in carved and gilded wood, made life-size. The greyhound stands on a carved and silvered base. The greyhound is carved sitting upright and is quite stylized in depiction with the skinny body emphasized and the elongated head. The greyhound is gilded but in quite a bronze colour with the paint below bleeding through the gilding, giving the dog an ancient look. The greyhound dates to the early twentieth century and is Italian, being marked on the base. The greyhound has sadly lost the tip of his tail but otherwise he is in good condition, with the odd knock and wear where he has been rubbed over the years. A very unusual and highly decorative statement piece of art.
