First World War Sweetheart Pincushion, Devonshire Regiment

Description

This is a lovely First World War Sweetheart pincushion in the shape of a heart, made by a soldier of the Devonshire Regiment. The insignia of the regiment is sewn to the centre of the cushion and is surrounded by beautiful beadwork and gold stitching. Two crossed Union Jacks are stitched to the top right, with the message "With Best Wishes". The cushion also bears a lovely verse to the top left, the verse reads:

"When the golden sun is sinking, and your mind from care set free, when of others you are thinking, will you sometimes think of me."

The cushion measures 6.5 x 6.5 inches, and is 2.5 inches thick.

This cushion is in superb condition, all the more impressive considering it is 100 years old. A wonderfully decorative item, and a charming piece of British history.
