Fine 18th Century Japanese Ivory Netsuke Sage and Monkey

Description

As part of our oriental collection we are delighted to offer this finely carved 18th century Japanese ivory netsuke depicting a bearded sage holding a monkey .

The netsuke looks to have some other story attached to it as the monkey covers his mouth with his hand while the sage appears to be smiling and looking upwards, the pair are very well carved and extremly tactile as all good useable netsuke of the edo period would be.

The condition and colour are fabulous with just the usual age related hairlines but no damage or repairs.

Height 3" 7.5 cm
