Antique English Oak & Brass Postal Scale by Samuel Turner Senior C.1880

Description

A particularly attractive and decorative letter scale made from solid English Oak and polished brass.

The large pan is engraved with the inland postal rates and the small weight pan beautifully decorated with exquisite floral and foliate design. The base is mounted with a natural bone plaque, engraved and inked with Foreign letter rates.

The complete set of weights sit in three velvet lined cut-outs to the base but when all stacked together create a wonderful beehive including the little topper weight.

The scale is engraved "Warranted Accurate" and also tucked away is the trade mark for Samuel Turner Senior. Dating to c.1880, Victorian in era, they scales remain in superb condition.

The base measures 9" x 4 3/8" and stands 4 3/4" tall.
