This is an unusual and completely original arts & crafts metamorphic mahogany library steps, circa 1900. The chair designed during the arts & crafts period and using this style, converts on brass hinges from a standard chair to a set of 4 mahogany library steps in seconds! The chair boasts an arched arts & crafts open fretwork back splats and an over-hang to the seat. Below the seat, the structural design of the metamorphic chair ensures that the structure of the chair below is solid in joint. This chairs features the original polish, therefore they boast a rich deep mahogany colour and patination. This is an extremely useful piece of furniture and a great asset to have in any office, living room or hallway and it consumes very little space.

It has a beautiful deep rich patina, which has been generated by the years of cleaning and care it has received. This truly is a very beautiful item with quality construction and is original throughout. It is rare to see one in such good condition. This item would certainly grace any home. Condition Report:
The chair is in good original condition. The chair retains the original polish and patination; this gives the item a fantastic depth and richness of colour, which cannot be repeated. There are old use marks to the central arched back splat, leading edges and seat (see photos). There is some wear to the area around the hinges but nothing significant considering the age of the item. The hinges are original There is no damage or breaks to the legs, stretchers or feet. The legs are sturdy. This item is free of woodworm, solid in joint and ready to use.
