Description

As part of our oriental collection we are delighted to offer this fine quality Japanese ivory okimono of a Takarabune with the seven lucky gods aboard , the okimono is carved in great detail and from one piece of ivory as all good okimono are , the story goes that the seven lucky gods are crashing through the waves to bring new year gifts to the villagers , a very poignant okimono hence its popularity .

The condition of the item is great with a couple of minor old stable age cracks ,a gorgeous mellow patination to the underside which is as finely carved as the top and is typical of a good Japanese okimono , it is signed in a red seal tablet and apparently reads Kazumasa-to , a highly competent carver from the great Meiji era !!
