Description

As part of our oriental collection we are delighted to bring this fine and humerous Japanese ivory netsuke to the market , the netsuke depicts a rodent, probably a rat curled up in a ball with his tail wrapped around his back, he is holding his tail with one paw while scratching his ear with the other, very cute !

He has jet black inset eyes and the signs of old brown staining , this technique was commonly used by a netsuke artist known as Rantei , the netsuke appears to be signed by Rantei but it was not uncommon for other artists to copy signatures , we will therefore sell this particular netsuke as "in the manner of Rantei".

Again from the same private collection as the other freshly listed netsuke , the condition is great with no signs of any damage or repairs,a few minor old hairlines as you would expect , a great little netsuke !!
