Description

As part of our oriental collection we are delighted to bring to the market this magnificent quality Japanese ivory netsuke of a shi shi dog , the dog has been carved in exquisite detail by an unknown artist although it has the signs of a well known carver called Gyokosu , the netsuke would then have possibly been passed to a shibayama school artist to apply the decoration , it was commonplace to collaborate on many Japanese works of art in the Meiji period.

The netsuke is inlaid using semi precious hardstones such as coral and jade with the additional use of gold coloured pins (not tested), the netsuke is of the highest quality for its size and medium used .

The condition is gorgeous with no sign of damage,repair or restorations and turning that lovely mellow honey colour, the netsuke is a must have for any serious shibayama or netsuke collection and amongst the other netsuke listed today has come into our hands from a private collection !!
