A Fine Gilded Brass-bound Walnut Games Compendium

Description

A splendid quality mid/late 19th century walnut GAMES COMPENDIUM in fine original condition.

The finely-figured burr walnut case is embellished with gilt brass "Gothic" mounts and inset with six "Tiger's Eye" semi-precious stones of cabochon shape. The top opens to reveal the red leather chess, draughts and backgammon board in the lid, with full set of six dice; set of eight red-and-white pegs; cribbage board; bezique markers; draughts/backgammon pieces and white and red-stained bone chess pieces.

The spring-loaded drawer below holds four packs of original cards; various red and white counters and original pair of turned boxwood shakers. A lovely games box in superb condition.
