Worked and signed by Sarah Theobald, and dated 1753, this pretty sampler features an interesting variety of animals which include: dogs (a poodle?); cats; a stag lying down; birds; flowers and shrubs, plus two windmills and the alphabet in upper and lower case.
It also features the verse: "Fear the Lord and he will be a Tender Father unto Thee" (one tends to fogey how religious a community most of us lived in at that time, and indeed what avid churchgoers we all were).
