Antique English Tunbridge Ware Go to Bed C.1870

Description

A lovely example of a Victorian Tunbridgeware Go-To-Bed dating to around 1870 and made from Rosewood, intricately inlaid.

The lid lifts to reveal three compartments with two original tapers which would have been placed in the eyelet in the centre of the lid and lit with a match to provide enough light to get to bed, hence the name of these.

The underside is turned with concentric circles to create a textured finish to strike a non-safety match.

A superb example in excellent condition. The base diameter measuring 2 1/4" and standing 3 1/4" tall.
