Description

In its original OCTAGONAL GILT FRAME this GEORGE III SAMPLER was worked by MARY ANN SPURRELL in 1800.

The SAMPLER features THREE ALPHABETS and a POEM entitled 'ON FRIENDSHIP' all set within an ACORN border.

Either side of the POEM are two BASKETS of FLOWERS and beneath these are TWO TREES with ANIMALS by the side.

HEARTS, CROWNS and BIRD motifs enhance the main subjects.

The SAMPLER is worked in SILKS on very fine LAWN which has worn through in places but the fine detail of the embroidery remains.
