Magnificent Quality Pair of Japanese Ivory Tusk Vases Meiji 1868-1912

Description

As part of our oriental collection we are delighted to be able to offer this quite superb pair of Japanese Meiji period tusk vases , each vase is carved deeply with scenes of scholars sat amidst heavily landscaped pine forest in a sort of mythical scenes, the scholars or holy men appear to either be studying or praying , whatever the story the attention to detail is quite remarkable .

Each vase is superbly signed and later fitted into parcel gilded ormolu mounts for display purpose , the condition is great with minor grooving to the lips where once they would have also been lamps, the colour is exquisite and they do not come much crisper than these !
