Superb Large Japanese Ivory Tusk Vase Elephants & Tigers Meiji Period

1900 - 1920
Description

As part of our oriental collection we are pleased to offer this superb large Japanese ivory tusk vase ,the tusk section is carved in high relief depicting a roaming elephant surrounded by a group of tigers , the detailing is superb and crisp as all good Meiji period vases should be , the tusk has a thin fitted bottom section complete with its original label and is also complete with its heavy quality neat fitting lid which cleverly uses a tiger as a finial , the artist has even used the dowel as an excuse to etch an insect in the lid and then repeated it on the base section.

The tusk is very thick and substantial with no splits,cracks or repairs , lovely condition throughout !
