Set of Four P. Ipsen Danish Terra Cotta Plaques Circa 1880

Description

Depicting the FOUR AGES OF MAN, this SET OF FOUR TERRA COTTA PLAQUES bear the impressed mark P. IPSEN, KJOBENHAVN, ENERET.

They date from circa 1880.

They measure approximately 8.75 inches (22 cm) in diameter.

There are nibbles to the rims and a few to the highpoints. The third plaque (middle age) has a chip to the underside of the rim (please see photograph) and some overpainting to the side of this chip which suggests another chip might have been reglued and disguised. The fourth plaque (old age) has some overpainting to the left rim which catches the camera flash in the photograph. Again, this might suggest a reglued and disguised chip.
