Stunning Large Japanese Ivory Face Mask Signed Meiji Period 1868-1912

Description

As part of our oriental collection we are delighted to be able to bring this superb Japanese mask to the market, carved from a heavy thick one piece slice of elephant tusk , this is quite unique , we have never seen another one , the quality is stunning the detail so lifelike , everything you would expect from a top tokyo school artist of the period , the mask is signed on the rear in black and red ,although we have not yet had time to trace the signature , i do not think it is important because in my opinion it could not be carved any finer , if you collect Japanese ivory you will want this in your collection that's for sure !!

The condition is superb , two side holes available for a hanging thread for display , lovely mellow colour and a few old age lines , Gorgeous !
