Stunning Japanese Ivory Okimono Meiji Period 1868-1912

Description

As part of our oriental collection we are offering this quite superb quality Japanese ivory okimono group depicting a father and his two sons performing as street entertainers , the dad is playing his shamosin with bachi ,the boy to his side is playing the drum while the other boy is performing acrobatically upon his dads shoulder , the detail is very fine with dad and one son virtually all carved from one piece of ivory and the drummer being one piece rather than the lesser quality jointed ivorys you normally associate with this size piece !!

Condition is everything with okimono and i have scrutinised this piece all over , with a glass i can make out an old crack on the flying boys lower leg other than that i will say perfect, a couple of lovely old age lines and some debris on the underside near the signature . (probably from an old base and will clean off )

It is a great group dont miss it !!
