Very Unusual Japanese Painted Ivory Figure

1900 - 1920
Description

This is a highly unusual Japanese ivory figure in its original sandelwood type box , i have not seen this character before , he has been carved out of a huge chunk of ivory and then decorated in various colours to a superb standard , the quality of the carving is simply stunning , as good as meiji although a little later in date , i cannot find any damage , the fan is removable and he has a super red seal signature inset into the underside of the decorated base .

A real special piece of Japanese ivory .
