Huge Magnificent Japanese Tokyo School Ivory Elephant Meiji Period 1868-1912

Description

This in my opinion is as good as Japanese ivory carving gets ,carved in tokyo by a master craftsman this magnificent elephant can best be described by looking at the detail on the photos , the skin is liflike , the pose is so natural and the eyes follow you wherever you look at them , he is signed in red under his front right foot ,the colour cannot possibly be shown to its best effect , he is a gorgeous mellow honey colour with a patina on his back like you cannot believe from years of carefull caressing !!

The condition is simply stunning , he has no damage or repairs as he is simply collosal , there are a couple of darker fine age cracks totally stable and on the underside you will see a natural fissure under his neck , this is due to the size of the tusk , its massive he weighs almost 1.2kg and sizes follow.

If you want a star for your collec tion then this is it , he is really really special , dont have any regrets !!!
