A very unusual late Victorian page turner. The page turner is made in deal in the shape of a large trowel. The blade has been elaborately decorated in pokerwork with fantastical animals, and the handle is finely turned. The item was almost certainly for turning the large pages of folio books, but it is a possibility that it might have been a ceremonial trowel, similar to the silver trowels one sees. The item is in perfect condition with slight signs of wear. C.1900.
