Antique English Oak and Brass Post and Delivery Letter Caddy C.1890

Description

A wonderful shape and unusual form, this Victorian letters box was made to hang on the wall for collection of outing "Post" and letters for hand "Delivery".

These wonderful pieces would have been in a smart hotel, private club or aristocratic residence and mail placed in the box for taking either to the post office or hand delivered; very civilized!

The highly polished pierced or reticulated brass panels looks wonderful against the warmth of the wood, the panels have been professionally re-polished to gleam, one engraved "Post" the other engraved "Delivery"

Excellent condition, the unfinished back has a grain hairline in the wood of no consequence and does not carry through to the front, mentioned purely for accuracy. The back wooden panel measures 12" x 5 1/2"; each pocket has an internal width measuring 4 1/2" wide.
