The brass continues right around the back of the inkwell, so perfect for a desk looking out into a room, often the back looks so unfinished.

There is a large pen trough to the front, where one would rest one's pen and the two cut crystal inkwells are quite superb. Made from heavy crystal, they have been beautifully cut on the underside and to the top (there are a couple of little chips to the undersides, but the pattern so intricate it is insignificant but mentioned for accuracy). The collars to the inkwells also beautifully engraved.

Between the two inkwells is an oval lidded box for pen nibs, stamps, sealing wax and other small desk paraphernalia. Again the hinge is engraved, detail and quality everywhere. One of the small screws is missing as there is a chip of wood out where it would have gone, again mentioned purely for accuracy.

The inkstand comes complete with the matching paper knife or page turner, original to the inkstand with the same brass mounts to both sides of the handle.
A good impressive size, measuring 14 3/4" x 9" foot to foot. The paper knife measuring 13" in length.
