This Edwardian pet accessory is an English Country House white metal and brown leather dog collar dating from 1910. The piece takes the form of a silver-coloured metal band lined with brown leather and decorated with a studded band, a padlock detail with an original working key, and a spherical brass bell. Visible details include a stamped maker's mark for Arthur Garstin and Co, stamped 'WHITE METAL' text, unpolished surfaces with natural wear, and a small key attached to the hardware. The collar measures 9cm to 10cm in size with a width of 2cm. In a modern home, this piece makes an interesting display item on a bookshelf.

During the Victorian and Edwardian eras, metal dog collars featuring padlocks and attached bells were used as practical identifiers and status symbols, reflecting owner prestige and offering physical protection for valuable dogs.

Edwardian dog collars were constructed primarily from nickel-plated brass, white metal, or iron, lined internally with soft leather for comfort and fitted with brass locks or spherical bells.

Authentic period collars exhibit age-appropriate patination, original locking mechanisms with period keys, hand-riveted studs, and natural surface wear to both the metallic band and interior leather lining.

These historical collectables serve as striking display objects when positioned under a glass cloche, arranged within a cabinet of curiosities, or displayed on a bookshelf alongside vintage leather-bound volumes.

Maintain metal surfaces by wiping gently with a dry microfibre cloth to preserve surface patina, avoiding abrasive polishes, and treat the original leather lining sparingly with a neutral leather conditioner.
