Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This nineteenth-century Maltese occasional drum table uses warm golden brown olive wood timber with a polished finish. The circular top displays segmented starburst veneers centred by an inlaid dark Maltese cross, sitting above a frieze containing alternating real and dummy drawers fitted with small round dark knobs. A turned central column with carved lotus motifs supports the top, rising from a triform plinth base raised on small round bun feet. The table measures 71 cm high, 54 cm wide, and 54 cm deep. In a modern interior, this piece serves as a functional accent table in an empty corner or beside a seating area to hold small decorative items.

FAQs

A Maltese drum table is a circular table, typically dating from the nineteenth century, crafted in Malta and featuring a deep frieze often fitted with drawers and supported by a central turned pedestal.

These pieces predominantly feature locally sourced olive wood veneers arranged in decorative geometric patterns, often accompanied by cross-banding or inlays of contrasting timber and turned wooden hardware.

Authentic pieces often showcase distinct starburst or segment-veneered tops, hand-turned pedestal supports, triform plinth bases, and frequently incorporate the iconic eight-pointed Maltese cross motif within the top inlay.

Position the table in an entryway, bay window, or living room alcove as a focal accent piece, pairing its detailed wood grain with minimalist contemporary ceramics or a subtle table lamp.

Keep the piece away from direct heat sources and strong sunlight to prevent veneer movement or fading, and apply a high-quality beeswax polish sparingly with a soft cloth along the natural grain.
