Why Sellingantiques dated this piece to THE GEORGIAN ERA:
Wooden knuckle hinges on the folding brackets: early method of supporting drop leaves.
Fine hand-cut dovetails at the drawer front: made by hand before machinery.
Solid oak drawer linings: quality secondary timber chosen for durability.
Ring-turned tapering legs: fashionable profile turned on a pole or treadle lathe.
Cast brass rosette knobs: traditional fittings with gentle wear from use.

This Georgian Pembroke table is made of dark brown mahogany with a smooth polished finish and stands on turned legs fitted with brass castors. The drop leaf construction allows the top to expand, while the front features two drawers accented with small circular brass knobs and keyholes. The timber shows warm rich grain patterns across the rectangular top and leaves. Measuring 71 cm high, 37 cm wide, and 51 cm deep, the table extends to a width of 74 cm with both leaves raised. Placed in a modern home, this piece suits placement at the end of a sofa or beside a living room armchair as a convenient surface for books or lamps. The compact proportions also make it useful in a bedroom as a small bedside table or in a hallway for daily essentials. The traditional design brings classic English country house character to both period properties and contemporary interiors without dominating the floor space.

A Pembroke table is a type of light, portable drop-leaf table introduced in the 18th century, named after the Countess of Pembroke. It typically features two folding leaves supported by hinged wooden brackets, along with one or two small drawers.

Georgian Pembroke tables were primarily constructed using mahogany, satinwood, or oak. Drawer linings were frequently made from pine or oak, and legs were often fitted with brass castors for mobility.

Authentic pieces feature hand-cut dovetail drawer joints, original brass handles or knobs, and hand-chiseled wooden fly-rail supports for the drop leaves. Wear pattern on the castors and subtle asymmetry in hand-turned legs also indicate age.

A Pembroke table functions as a side table positioned at the end of a sofa, a compact desk in a bedroom, or a nightstand. The drop leaves can be extended to accommodate lamps, books, or tea services as needed.

Dust the timber regularly with a soft dry cloth and apply natural beeswax annually to maintain the original finish. Keep the table away from direct heat sources and sunlight to prevent shrinkage or warping of the hinged leaves.
