This Imperial Japanese Military officer sword originates from 1940 during the Second World War. The piece comprises a signed steel blade housed in an olive green painted metal scabbard, complemented by a ray skin handle wrapped in braided cotton cord. Decorative elements include a brass tsuba handguard, brass mounts, and a suspension ring fitting near the throat. Visible details include patinated brass hardware, a curved scabbard profile, and a textured hilt wrapping. The entire assembly measures 103 cm high, 6 cm wide, and 7 cm deep. Display this edged weapon in a gentleman's library or study to add historical interest to the interior. Place the sword horizontally or mount it securely above the mantel as a focal point among traditional books and collections. The compact proportions allow placement on a dedicated display stand, shelf, or desk within a private office or living space.

Shin Gunto, translating to new military sword, was the official sidearm style commissioned for officers of the Imperial Japanese Armed Forces during the mid-twentieth century.

These swords typically incorporate forged steel blades, brass tsuba handguards, ray skin tsuka handles wrapped in woven braid, and painted metal scabbards designed for battlefield conditions.

Authentic military swords usually feature standardized brass mountings, military inspectors stamps, tang markings under the handle, and functional retaining catches on the scabbard.

A military sword can be mounted horizontally on a dedicated wooden display stand or secured within a custom glazed shadow box wall mount.

Steel blades require periodic coating with mineral oil or choji oil to prevent oxidisation, while painted metal scabbards should be kept dry and free from abrasive cleaners.
