A gallery tray is a flat serving tray featuring a raised border or railing, typically crafted from metal or wood, designed to prevent glassware and items from slipping off the edge during transit.

Late Victorian gallery trays were frequently constructed using dense hardwoods such as English oak or mahogany for the base, combined with electroplated nickel silver (EPNS) or sterling silver for the raised gallery rail and handles.

Authentic late 19th-century silver-plated trays usually feature makers stamps, trade marks, or EPNS letters on the metal rail, handles, or central cartouche, alongside age-appropriate tarnish and hand-fitted joinery on the timber base.

A wooden gallery tray can be styled on a sideboard, coffee table, or ottoman to group spirits decanters, crystal glassware, or small decorative items into an organized vignette.

Clean the silver-plated elements using a soft cloth with dedicated silver polish, avoiding contact between liquid cleaners and the timber base; the wood surface should be dusted lightly and periodically dressed with natural beeswax.
