Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Additional visible elements include a dark brown traditional tsuka-ito wrapped handle, a circular iron tsuba guard, and a signed tsuba with a kozuka blade, showing overall presentable condition with the blade out of polish and an unsigned tang. The total length measures 71 cm, with a blade cutting edge length of 46 cm, a guard height of 7 cm, and a same depth of 6.5 cm. Suitable for display in a gentleman's library setting, this Edos-period weapon fits neatly upon a bookshelf as an authentic historical artefact. It brings traditional Japanese craftsmanship into a modern study, offering collectors an interesting edged weapon with visible historical details and distinct period character.

FAQs

A Wakizashi is a traditional Japanese short sword worn alongside the longer katana by samurai during feudal Japan, notably throughout the Edo period.

These pieces traditionally consist of folded high-carbon steel blades, wooden scabbards finished in urushi lacquer, rayskin handles wrapped in silk or cotton cord, and iron or copper fittings.

Period swords typically display hand-forged steel grain patterns, hand-engraved signatures on the tang beneath the handle, and authentic surface wear on the metal and lacquered fittings.

Displaying the sword horizontally on a wooden stand upon a sideboard, desk, or open shelving creates a clean, architectural focal point in contemporary spaces.

Steel blades require periodic oiling with mineral or choji oil to prevent rust, while lacquered scabbards must be stored away from direct sunlight, high heat, and fluctuating moisture.
