18th century
Description

Delightful little late Georgian mahogany cellarette or wine cooler c.1820. Ideal as a little side table with storage, the flat lid opening to reveal cellarette space inside (internal height 29cm - just a little too short for modern wine bottles). With original brass handles to the sides, inlaid stringing at the edges and an ebony inlaid escutcheon. Raised on a mahogany base with crisply turned legs on the original brass cup casters. Note the lovely mahogany swirl veneers used on the sides. Very good colour and condition, cleaned and waxed in our workshops.

Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This late Georgian mahogany cellarette or wine cooler dates from around 1820. The piece has a flat lid opening to reveal internal storage, original brass side handles, inlaid edge stringing, and an ebony inlaid escutcheon, all rendered in rich brown mahogany timber with visible grain variation. The storage box rests on a separate base with crisply turned legs terminating in original brass cup casters. These turned elements, the dark keyhole escutcheon, and the warm reddish-brown timber tones are all clearly visible on the item. Practical dimensions are 70 cm high, 40.5 cm wide, and 28 cm deep. The internal height measures 29 cm, which accommodates shorter bottles or items. In a contemporary interior, the piece functions well as a small side table with hidden storage in a living room, dining area, or study.
