Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

FAQs

This style is defined by curvilinear forms, serpentine tops, cabriole legs, and decorative timber veneers such as kingwood and rosewood. Elaborate brass or ormolu mounts and intricate marquetry or parquetry work are central characteristics of this movement.

Craftsmen utilised hardwood framing overlaid with fine veneers of exotic woods such as kingwood, tulipwood, and walnut to create geometric patterns. Decorative elements frequently included cast bronze or brass mounts, known as ormolu, and brass rim borders.

Authentic pieces feature hand-cut veneer work, thick timber construction beneath the veneer, and cast metal mounts secured with period-appropriate screws. Natural signs of age include slight surface patination, minor shrinkage lines in the timber, and oxidisation on the metalwork.

A French centre table serves effectively as a statement feature in an entrance foyer, hallway, or bay window. Pair it with neutral surrounding decor or minimal contemporary art to highlight the intricate woodwork and metal details without visual clutter.

Keep the timber away from direct sunlight and central heating sources to prevent veneer lifting or drying. Dust regularly with a dry microfibre cloth and apply a quality natural beeswax sparingly along the grain to preserve the timber finish.
