This nineteenth-century Regency wine cooler takes the form of a terracotta earthenware vessel in a warm brown colour. The piece presents a round body with twin ornate scroll handles, an open lid section, and a base. A basketweave collar surrounds the upper neck above a relief moulded frieze depicting cascading grapevines and leaves, which continues around the main cylindrical body. The piece has a distinct matt unglazed finish showing light surface grazes on the earthenware. Measuring 22x25x20 cm, the object is practical for display on a large sideboard or serving table in a dining room or living space. It serves as a decorative focal point or a functional container for chilling wine bottles during formal meals or gatherings.

During the Regency and William IV eras, terracotta wine coolers were designed to keep bottled beverages cold at the dining table by filling the interior cavity with ice or cold water.

They were crafted from refined earthenware clay, pressure-moulded with relief decoration such as classical foliage, and fired to create a porous or semi-vitrified ceramic body.

Authentic Davenport pieces usually bear an impressed factory mark on the base, such as Davenport accompanied by an anchor, along with crisp relief moulding and era-appropriate age wear.

These decorative vessels serve as distinctive central features on sideboards, kitchen counters, or dining tables, and can also be repurposed as decorative planters or vase covers.

Clean gently using a soft dry brush to remove dust from detailed relief work, avoid immersion in water, and keep the ceramic away from moisture and freezing conditions to prevent cracking.
