The Fancy Fox has dated this Worcester Porcelain Butter Boat to the 18th Century.
Unmarked, c.1755-1756.

Butter boats and pickle dishes are very rarely decorated in enamels because the acids in the food that would be placed inside would react with the enamel colours. They are usually decorated in underglaze blue. All enamelled examples are very rare and all those we have seen are decorated in a bolder red, puce, green and yellow palette. We haven't come across any other examples in this combination of colours but one does appear to be illustrated in Coloured Worcester Porcelain Of The First Period, by Marshall, Plate 50, item 1033 which describes the enamel colours as red, green, blue and yellow (the red is minimal but present).

It measures 8.1cm (3 3/16") long, 6cm (2 5/16") wide and 3.5cm (1 3/8") high.
In excellent condition. One small smoothed chip to the rim edge and a couple of tiny nicks to the edge of the stalk, all of which are minimally noticeable except on close inspection. No other damage, repair or restoration. Minimal handling wear and the enamels are lovely and bright.
