Antique Mahogany Military Campaign Style Coffee Table

1920 - 1940
Description

A fantastic antique mahogany military campaign style coffee table. This was made in England, we would date it from around the 1930’s.

It is of superb quality and is a very useful size. The mahogany has a lovely colour tone, offset beautifully by the brass accents and handles. There is an inset black leather top, a cross stretchered base and three drawers on the front, with three dummy drawers on the reverse.

We have had this recently re-polished to a very high standard, the condition is excellent with just some very minor wear remaining beneath the polish here and there.

Width – 47 inches , 119 cm

Depth – 20.5 inches , 52 cm

Height – 19.5 inches , 50 cm

Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This English mahogany coffee table follows a military campaign style and dates from around 1930. The timber has a dark brown finish, complemented by an inset black leather top bordered with studs, flush rectangular brass drawer handles, and brass corner mounts on the frame. The structure stands on upright legs connected by a central X-frame cross stretcher base, featuring three drawers along the front. Measuring 50 cm high, 119 cm wide, and 52 cm deep, the table provides a substantial surface area for living spaces. Position this piece centrally in a sitting room, library, or study as a functional coffee table to anchor seating arrangements. The dark wood tone and utilitarian brass hardware suit traditional and transitional interiors alike, offering a practical surface for books, drinks, or decorative objects while adding a distinct campaign aesthetic to the room.

FAQs

Military campaign furniture refers to modular or portable wooden furniture designed to be easily packed and transported by military officers during travel or field campaigns throughout the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries.

Traditional campaign pieces feature durable hardwoods such as mahogany or teak, combined with flush brass corner brackets and recessed handles designed to withstand frequent transport without damage.

Authentic campaign style furniture is characterised by flush-fitting brass hardware, strapwork corner reinforcements, recessed drawer handles, and robust joinery engineered for stability.

A campaign coffee table functions well in modern living rooms when paired with neutral upholstered seating, tailored leather armchairs, and brass decorative accents.

Dust mahogany timber regularly with a soft dry cloth and apply beeswax polish along the grain, while leather tops should be kept away from direct heat sources and treated with specialised leather balm.
