This Edwardian pocket spy camera, dating from 1900, takes the form of a pocket watch with a silver-coloured nickel-plated and brass finish. The cylindrical body includes a top-mounted glass viewfinder, an engraved monogram on the cover, a knurled winding knob showing patches of rust and wear, and a small metal pin projecting from the rim. The casing measures 55 mm in diameter. Suitable for display on a bookshelf in a gentleman's library or study, the piece integrates smoothly into an interior collection of scientific instruments, militaria, or antique curiosities. The object stands upright on a flat surface, showing clear signs of age on the metallic surfaces and hardware while retaining its compact, watch-like mechanical construction.

Introduced in the early twentieth century by Houghtons Ltd, the Ticka camera was a subminiature camera engineered in the form of a pocket watch to allow discreet photography.

These devices were typically constructed with nickel-plated brass or steel casings, internal brass clockwork-style film advance mechanisms, and glass optical elements.

Authentic examples feature stamped manufacturer markings by Houghtons Ltd on the casing, correct proportions matching early 1900s pocket watches, and a top-mounted detachable or fixed drop-down viewfinder.

Small mechanical antiques are best displayed on glass shelf displays, within shadow boxes, or on dark wood surfaces alongside historical books and scientific instruments.

Clean the metal surface gently using a dry microfibre cloth, avoiding harsh chemical polishes that can wear away nickel plating, and store in low-humidity environments to prevent surface oxidisation.
