Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This mid-century French side table combines industrial steel with a natural slate top, reflecting a stark brutalist style from 1940. The top consists of an irregular slab of black slate secured by exposed bolt fixings near the corners, showing a raw, uneven edge. Beneath this sits a solid dark steel base with a black finish, comprising slender tapered square legs joined by cross-bar stretchers near the floor. Visible hammer marks texture the metal supports, and minor surface wear and small marks appear across the structure, consistent with age and use. Measuring 42 cm high, 53 cm wide and 39 cm deep, the table provides a compact surface area. In a modern interior, this piece serves well as a side table positioned at the end of a sofa or beside an armchair in an industrial loft or contemporary living space. The dark grey and black palette integrates easily with neutral or urban-inspired room schemes, offering a sturdy platform for lamps, books or decorative items while maintaining a minimalist profile.

FAQs

French mid-century design from the 1950s and 1960s often incorporated raw, structural materials like steel, iron, and natural slate, combining functionalist aesthetics with artisanal metalwork.

These tables typically feature solid slabs of natural slate or stone secured with visible metal bolts or rivets onto welded steel or wrought iron frames.

Authentic pieces display hand-welded steel joints, natural cleaving on the slate surface, substantial structural weight, and age-appropriate patination or light surface oxidisation on the frame.

Position the piece beside low-profile upholstered seating to contrast dark, textural stone with soft fabrics, or incorporate it into minimalist and industrial schemes alongside timber elements.

Dust the slate top regularly with a soft dry cloth and wipe clean with a damp cloth as needed, while applying a thin coat of clear wax to the steel frame to protect against corrosion.
