Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

FAQs

A George III console table is a period side table crafted in Britain during the reign of King George III, spanning 1760 to 1820. These tables were designed to sit flat against a wall in hallways, reception rooms, or dining spaces, demonstrating classical proportions and refined cabinetmaking.

Georgian console tables were primarily constructed using dense mahogany, often paired with oak or pine as secondary woods for internal framing. Details frequently incorporated brass castors, hand-cut dovetail joinery, and veneered or carved timber friezes.

Authentic George III pieces exhibit hand-worked timber construction, including uneven hand-sawn secondary wood, hand-cut dovetails, and genuine age patina. Look for historic brass fittings, original castor fixings, and mortise and tenon joinery typical of 18th-century workshops.

A Georgian console table functions well in a contemporary entrance hall or behind a sofa. Position modern artwork or an oversized mirror above the tabletop, and pair the piece with contemporary ceramic lamps or decorative objects to contrast classic timber with clean modern lines.

Maintain mahogany furniture by positioning it away from direct heat sources and radiators to prevent timber movement. Dust with a soft microfibre cloth and apply a high-grade beeswax polish once or twice a year to preserve the wax layer and timber finish.
