This original Victorian steel engraved map of Huntingdonshire by Thomas Moule dates from circa 1840. The piece takes the form of a monochrome topographical sheet on paper with black ink. The design incorporates intricate decorative scroll borders, architectural vignettes, and heraldic crests. Visible details include age-related toning, foxing, staining particularly around the margins, edge wear, small tears, minor losses, and spotting. The dimensions of the item are 28 cm high, 21 cm wide, and 0.02 cm deep. Suited for placement on a narrow wall space, the map finds a natural home in a gentleman's library or study when framed and displayed under glass. It serves as a striking focal point for collectors of local cartography and regional British history, integrating smoothly into traditional or academic interior schemes.

Thomas Moule maps, produced primarily in the 1830s and 1840s, are recognised for their ornate decorative borders, architectural vignettes, and heraldic coats of arms surrounding the central topographical details.

Steel engraving involved incising design lines into a hardened steel plate, allowing for fine lines and larger print editions on heavy paper stock using black oil-based ink.

Original prints display an indented plate line around the image perimeter, natural paper age toning, and crisp engraved lines visible under magnification rather than modern printing dot patterns.

Frame the map in a simple modern mould with a neutral mount to highlight the fine line work, displaying it on a feature wall, hallway, or home office.

Frame using acid-free mounting materials and UV-protective glass, storing or displaying the piece away from direct sunlight, moisture, and extreme temperature fluctuations to prevent foxing.
