A Rare Spode Porcelain 'Toy' Teapot Decorated in Pattern 1166 C.1820

Description

A rare Spode miniature or ‘toy’ porcelain teapot c.1820. Very finely decorated in pattern 1166. Spode’s pattern number 1166 was introduced circa 1806 and was one of the most sumptuous designs produced by Spode. Painted by hand with all over sprays of brightly coloured flowers and gilded mons, reserved upon a cobalt blue ground with graduated gilded scales.

Listed as Shape Number 319 in The Spode 1820 Shape Book ''Low, Toy Teapot.''

Condition: Tiny flea-bite size chip to foot and another to the inner flange of the teapot lid. Signs of re-gilding to top of the end of the spout but no damage detected. Some pitting to the underside of the spout caused during the firing process.
