Huge Original Painted Pine Antique Ironmonger’s Trade Sign

A superb large scale 19th century English antique shop sign from Yorkshire. William Woods was a large ironmongers shop and warehouse in Halifax, Yorkshire. This is a great survivor and in such good, honest condition. The large scale antique wooden sign has a moulded frame with the original hand painted sign writing in gilt paint and with an original gilt edge top the frame. Even complete with original bun feet meaning that this antique shop sign would have sat on a high up surface originally rather than wall hung. All totally original, a lovely decorative piece of English 19th century social history.

This large nineteenth-century English trade sign comes from Yorkshire and originates from the shop and warehouse of William Woods in Halifax. The pine construction has a black painted finish with hand-painted gilt lettering and original gilding along the top edge of the frame. The moulded frame incorporates original turned bun feet, which indicate that the sign originally rested upon an elevated surface rather than hanging on a wall. Wear and surface marks are visible across the painted surfaces. Measuring 76 cm in height, 251 cm in width, and 9 cm in depth, the piece makes a striking decorative addition to a large interior space.
